
Abbasid times, were characterised by a mixture of cultures, races and languages and an intermingling of Arab and non-Arab peoples, due to the expansion of the Islamic empire across three continents: Asia, Africa and parts of Europe.
These people had the opportunity to travel throughout this vast empire without passports, and without being constrained by borders; contrary to the prevailing situation in Muslim countries today.
